OMS provides compatibility with Apple's QuickTime 2.5, which can route
music from QuickTime movies to OMS devices.
Here are some things to know about using OMS and QuickTime together:
QuickTime Control Panel Settings
In the “Music” settings of the QuickTime Settings control panel, you
will most likely want to check both “QuickTime Music Synthesizer” and
“OMS.” In the menu next to “OMS,” choose a General MIDI-compatible
synthesizer in your current OMS studio setup. This will route music from
QuickTime to your MIDI device.
NOTE: The QuickTime OMS driver will only send to the QuickTime Music
Synthesizer (which plays through your Mac's speaker) if you have checked “QuickTime Music Synthesizer” in the QuickTime Settings control panel. However, the QuickTime OMS driver will not send to any other destinations (such as an OMS MIDI device) selected in this control panel.
Known Problem
At times, the QuickTime Music Synthesizer may stop playing. We've seen
this happen when you quit the first OMS-compatible application you've
launched and continued to use another OMS-compatible application. To work
around this, open the OMS MIDI Setup dialog and click OK. This should
restart the QuickTime Music Synthesizer. Opcode is working with Apple to
resolve this problem.
USING OMS TO PLAY QUICKTIME MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS
OMS adds a driver for QuickTime Musical Instruments when you create a studio setup with the proper QuickTime components installed in your system. QuickTime Music's sampled synthesizer appears to cause performance problems with Sound Manager audio in Studio Vision. Since the release of OMS 2.1, there is a way to disable the QuickTime Musical Instruments driver, and in fact it is disabled by default. There are new On/Off radio buttons in the dialog that opens when you double-click the QuickTime Music icon in your studio setup document. When the QuickTime driver is disabled in your studio setup, its icon appears with a red circle and slash over it.
NOTE: Even though the driver is disabled, the QuickTime Music instruments still show up in instrument lists (like those used in Vision). In this instance, selecting a QuickTime Music instrument sends your data “nowhere.”

Note the new On/Off buttons in the above dialog. The disabled driver icon looks like this:

Known Problem
When opening an older studio setup (pre-2.1) that contains the QuickTime instruments device, the new icon with the red circle does not appear. If you double-click on the device it will actually be set to off. If you then click OK the correct icon will appear.
